The following items are points of background in regards to Sheriff's of Burleigh County and other added election points of interest:
June 27, 1934: Primary election in Burleigh County. Eleven vie for Sheriff. This was the most candidates for Sheriff.
November 4, 1902: General election in Burleigh County. George A. Welch is elected Sheriff over A. Wilham by vote total of 601 to 600. No recount is on record. This was the closest race for Sheriff.
November, 1934: Fred Anstrom is elected Sheriff. County Commission has an audit of the Sheriff's Office completed. Sheriff Joseph Kelley and a deputy are accused of a shortage in the Sheriff's office of $25,742.00. Sheriff Kelley and his deputy were later acquitted.
In 1951, former Sheriff Mel A. Hunter serves as Assistant Superintendent of the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
One Sheriff, Rollin Welch, held the office at two different times. Sheriff Rollin Welch was first elected in 1919, and held office until 1923. Sheriff Rollin Welch again ran for sheriff and was elected in 1927 and served until 1931.
March 15, 1932: Vote is whether to move the capitol to Jamestown, ND. Burleigh County votes 96 yes, 9,078 no, Stutsman County votes 7,258 yes, 1,798 no.
November 8, 1932: Vote on repeal of Prohibition Clause. Burleigh County vote totals: for 4,739, against 3,035.
